We are accepting serious enquiries for our upcoming litters again. My kittens are not placed as single cats and not into unsecured outdoor access! Both the mums and the dads can be visited here.
Character of the British Shorthair and Longhair cat
Colourpoint cats are similar to the Persian in temperament. They are:
Gentle, loving, balanced, people-oriented, affectionate, friendly, self-confident, talkative
Because Siamese cats were crossed in, however, the animals of this breed are somewhat livelier. This is especially noticeable in kittens, who are very energetic and wild when they play. Adult colourpoint cats, however, are usually very balanced. They are considered gentle, but are also extremely curious. The colourpoint is sociable and self-confident. When she wants to achieve something, she pushes her will through unobtrusively but firmly. With plenty of charm she almost always gets from her person whatever she has in mind.
Fans of the colourpoint colouring often stay playful into old age. Daily play sessions are therefore a must. Climbing is also much enjoyed. A colourpoint cat does not like being alone. If her people are away from home for a longer time, the sensitive cat may well be offended for a while. Only after some time does she thaw again and demand an extra portion of cuddles.
Since the colourpoint is very gentle and balanced, she usually gets along very well with children and other pets. That is why she is an ideal family and beginner's cat. The temperament of this breed should not be underestimated, though: once she starts to play, she is very lively and full of energy and enthusiasm. A special feature of these cats is their strong need to communicate. The colourpoint is often called a "talking breed" because she meows a lot and often even "answers" her person in dialogue. With a colourpoint cat, things are never boring for long.
Keeping
There are many sweet kittens of the colourpoint colouring looking for a nice home. Before you take in such a cat, however, you should find out about the requirements for keeping, grooming and feeding.
The semi-long to long coat of the colourpoint must be combed and brushed at least once a week. This not only avoids unpleasant matting but also removes the dead hair. The latter is important because otherwise the hair is swallowed during grooming and can lead to hairballs in the stomach. If grooming of a colourpoint is neglected over a longer period, brushing becomes very unpleasant and painful for the animal. In the worst case she has to be sedated and shaved at the vet, which is a lot of stress for the cat. In addition, the body coat usually grows back dark afterwards. Regular grooming is therefore essential with a colourpoint.
Cats of this breed enjoy outdoor access in the garden, but are also suited to being purely indoor cats. When kept indoors, make sure the surroundings are set up to suit a cat: several scratching posts, climbing opportunities and hiding places are absolutely necessary. A secured balcony is always gladly used by these curious cats to watch birds or lie in the sun.
With a colourpoint cat it is advisable to keep her with at least one other cat. This applies especially to purely indoor keeping. Cats of this breed are very sociable. They keep each other busy when the owner is away for a longer time, and as a pair they are less likely to take out their boredom on your furniture or wallpaper.
The nutritional requirements of the colourpoint cat are similar to those of other breeds. Since being overweight plays a certain role in colourpoint cats, the energy content of the food should always be adjusted to the age and activity of the animal. Choose high-quality food that contains plenty of meat and offal. The plant content such as vegetables or rice should be extremely low. Sugar or grain have no place in the food. Wet food is best as the main diet, as it also supplies the cat with the liquid she needs. Dry food can be offered as a treat. Colourpoint cats also often like to eat raw meat. If you want to feed exclusively raw, that is "BARF", you should read up on the subject to avoid nutritional deficiencies.
